Have you ever ridden a draisine?
I rode on a disused rail line over the weekend.
It was more interesting than I imagined. Riding through nature at bicycle speed without having to pay attention to the path and being able to talk to the passengers (we were a group of six on two draisines) was relaxing and impressive at the same time.
I asked myself how large the rail network in Germany is.
Here are some facts:
The rail network of the railways in Germany currently has a route length of around 38,400 km - in 1994, the year of a large rail reform, it was 44,600 km.
While the rail network is constantly shrinking, freight and passenger transport are continuously increasing.
Never before in Germany have so many people travelled by train as today.
